Through the study of the municipal elections held during the late Francoist period in the province of A Coruña, we analyse the relationship between the state and society; the attitudes of the social, economic and political sectors towards the elections; the articulation of new local elites, their characteristics and identification with regard to the subsequent political transition process; as well as the tensions that arose, as a result of the elections, between the supporters of the regime.
