Abstract

A handful of features -mostly linguistic- points to the existence of a group of non Indo-European speaking people in the Cantabric zone. This group can be roughly identified with the historical Astures and shows some convergences -mostly of a linguistic kind- with the Aquitanian (and Iberian) group. The modern Maragatos could reasonably be a relict of this non Indo-European people from the northwest of Spain.
